School Residencies

In addition to performing concerts, Free Planet Radio has been offering residencies, workshops and master classes for schools and camps of all ages.  For student musicians and non-musicians alike, this is a great opportunity to experience music and instruments from around the world, including our own American tradition of jazz.

The trio has string and wind arrangements of many of its compositions, so often a residency with music students will include rehearsals and a combined performance of student ensembles with Free Planet Radio.

Interactive programs can be tailored for the ages and skill level of the students.

Topics can include: -Introduction to World Music (an overview of "non-Western" music)-Introductions to Indian, Middle Eastern or Afro-Cuban Music (each of these is a more in-depth look at music of a particular part of the world)-Global Melodies for American Musicians-Hand Drumming Techniques from Around the World-Global Concepts for the Improvising Jazz Musician-Art of Ensemble Improvisation and more...

“Free Planet Radio — unique, worldly, accessible music performed and written by talented, comprehensive and accessible musicians, a great pick for a guest artist residency in concert, masterclass and lecture — I recommend them highly!
Professor Jeffrey W Holmes
Director, Jazz & African-American Music Studies
University of Massachusetts - Amherst

“We host many guest artists, and seldom have I seen the level of enthusiasm – among faculty and students, across all our arts disciplines – for these superlative performers and teachers. They were accessible, articulate and enthusiastic. The concluding evening concert included the participation of several FAC music students and faculty; the SRO audience was rapt and hung on every note. It was truly a night to remember. I eagerly look forward to another collaboration.”

Dr. Jon Jeffrey Grier
Instructor and Composer in Residence, Greenville Fine Arts Center

“Joyful Noise Summer Music and Arts Camp has been very honored to collaborate with Free Planet Radio for the past two summers. The campers have embraced new genres of music and ask for more. This past summer was very inspiring for some of the campers to be able to play along side Free Planet Radio while performing Free Planet Radio’s compositions. I would highly recommend Free Planet Radio to be part of any music camp or workshop event.”
